Ash pit as seen from coal loading ramp. Foreground track is the one on which loco tenders were filled with fresh coal (out of picture at right) when getting ready to leave. Upon arriving, locos dropped their ashes into pit just behind my measuring sticks. Drop bottom gondolas were filled with ashes one shovelful at a time. Ashes probably dragged earlier by shoveler(s) out onto concrete apron by the cars to cool before cars were loaded. 7/28/60.
