== Summary ==
Sometimes I come across a poor damaged photo. This view of Pacific Coast Borax #1 "Marion" in Ludlow, California suffered some damage over the years. This 25 ton 2 truck Heisler (c/n 1018) was built by the Stearns Manufacturing Company of Erie, PA. in February 1898. The PCB ordered two Heislers for use on their Borate & Daggett Railroad near Daggett, CA. The two Heislers were named "Marion" and "Francis" after the company's founder Francis Marion "Borax" Smith. After the B&D ceased operations, the two Heislers were moved to Ludlow in November, 1913. The "Francis" was taken to Death Valley Junction and used in construction the of the Death Valley Railroad. The "Marion" remained in Ludlow until it was sold to the Modoc Lumber Co. in 1918 and used on their Williamson River Logging Co. near Chilcoot, OR. Around 1922-1925 the locomotive was converted to standard gauge. In 1925 L. B. Menefee and later Forest Lumber Co. took over the operation until the railroad was abandoned in 1939. The little "Marion" is believed to have been scrapped at that time
