History

Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1882 for the South Pacific Coast Railroad of California.

Locomotive 13 soon after delivery in 1882. The California Powder Works in the background along the San Lorenzo River.

Service

South Pacific Coast Railroad

Originally ordered for the Connotton Valley Railroad February 1881 but not delivered. Ordered by the South Pacific Coast Railroad in March 1882, delivered June 1882. In August 1882 the SPC shops made the following modifications: Perforated half the dead grate with 3/4" holes; remove the insides of the Radley-Hunter stack and replaced them with a 20" cone and #17 wire 1/8" mesh screen. Transferred to the South Pacific Coast Railway May 1887.
