The Central Pacific Railroad constructed seven hand powered derrick cars in the 1880s. These cars first show up on the 1885 ORER numbered Derricks 1 through 6, and 8.
In the early 20th century these cars were renumbered into the 600 series.<ref>Note in CP ledger, CSRM</ref>

Southern Pacific (Narrow Gauge) Derrick Car #1

History

The Central Pacific Railroad constructed seven hand powered derrick cars in the 1880s. These cars first show up on the 1885 ORER numbered Derricks 1 through 6, and 8. In the early 20th century these cars were renumbered into the 600 series.[1]

Gauge: Originally standard gauge, converted to 3' gauge by Central Pacific.

Dimensions: 36' over the end sills. 9' 6" wide.

Weight: 22000 lbs
