Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1876 for the South Pacific Coast Railroad of California.

South Pacific Coast locomotive #2 on Webster Street at 11th Street, Oakland, CA, circa 1883.

When it was built South Pacific Coast #2 was delivered in the standard Baldwin paint scheme of the era called Style 1.
