The Carson & Colorado Railroad set Candelaria as their target when construction of the railroad began. South of Belleville the railroad constructed a branch to Candelaria at a location called Filbin. The branch featured the two tallest trestles on the entire railroad as the route gained elevation to enter Candelaria at the same elevation of the ore tipples of the Northern Belle Mine located on the eastern side of town.

The railroad constructed a depot, turntable and engine house closer to downtown located on the slope of.
